Frohes neues Jahr!!! 🎉  Happy new Year

Ich bin mit einigen Freunden zusammen ganz gut ins neue Jahr gestartet. Ich hoffen das ist auch bei euch allen der Fall gewesen.
I've had a good start into the new year, celebrating with some friends of mine. I hope you had a good start as well.  

Vergangenes Wochenende ging es dann leider gar nicht mehr so gut weiter. Wir sind am Freitag mit beiden Autos gestartet um Arbeiter ins Dorf zu bringen, damit die Häuser dann hoffentlich bald fertig gestellt werden können.
Last weekend things didn't go so well anymore. We left with both trucks on Friday to bring workers to the village so that the houses could hopefully get done.

Allerdings trafen wir schon nach 2 h fahrt auf das erste Problem. Es gibt nämlich 2 Straßen, die in unser Dorf führen. Die eine ist in ziemlich schlecht. Also es war nie asphaltiert oder so. Es war einfach Erde uns viele Steine. Das war die Straße die wir hauptsächlich genutzt hatten, da bei man bei der anderen Straße durch einen Fluss fahren muss und es riskant war dort stecken zu bleiben. 

Inzwischen wurde aber ein Brücke über besagten Fluss gebaut. Und die Straße wurde verbessert, was sie um einiges besser macht als die andere. Also wollten wir natürlich die bessere Straße nutzen. 

Als wir aber zur Brücke kamen, war ein LKW darauf, der eine Panne hatte und von dort nicht weg konnte, bevor es nicht repariert wurden. Anscheinend war er schon 2 Tage dort. Man hätte theoretisch links rum durch den Fluss fahren können, der sehr niedrig war, aber dort steckte ein anderer LKW fest. Man konnte nicht drum rum. Also mussten wir eine Halbe Stunde zurück fahren um dann wider auf die andere, schlechtere Straße zu kommen... 

However, after 2 hours driving we ran into the first problem. There are two roads that lead to our village. One is pretty bad, it was never paved or anything. It's just dirt and lots of rocks. That was the road we mainly used because you have to drive through a river on the other road and it was risky to get stuck there. In the meantime, however, a bridge has been built over that river. And the road has been improved, which makes it a lot better than the other one. So of course we wanted to use the better road. But when we got to that bridge, there was a truck that had broken down on it and couldn't get moved until it was fixed. Apparently it had been there for 2 days. Theoretically, you could have passed on the left side through the river, which was had very low tide, but another truck was stuck there as well. We couldn't get around it. So we had to drive back half an hour to get back on the other pretty bad road ...

Unterwegs sieht man dann immer wider interessante Sachen... wie einen Mann mit einem Haufen Heu auf dem Kopf auf dem Fahrrad... 

On the way you always see interesting things ... like a man with a pile of hay on his head riding a bike ...

Alles ging dann ganz gut, bis wir an diese Brücke kamen. Im Foto vielleicht nicht so gut zu sehen, aber der Winkel um auf die Brücke drauf zu fahren ist sehr schlecht und die Straße macht davor eine Biegung, so das man nicht gerade auf sie zu fahren kann... 

Da mein Auto voll beladen war, hab ich es leider nicht ganz geschafft über die Kante drüber zu kommen. Bei einem zweiten Anlauf, hat es dann einen Schlag gelassen, der Motor ist ausgegangen  und  nicht wieder angesprungen.

 Everything went well until we got to this bridge. A little hard to see in the picture, but the angle to drive onto the bridge is very bad and the road bends right before it, so that you cannot drive straight onto it ...since my car was fully loaded, I unfortunately couldn't quite get over the edge. On a second try, I heard something pop, black smoke came out of the muffler, the truck stalled and the engine no longer started.

Wir haben mein Auto dann am Straßenrand stehen gelassen und ich bin bei Ryan mit ins Dorf gefahren und hab dort übernachtet. Am nächsten Tag ist ein Kollege von mir, mit seinem Auto raus gekommen um zu sehen was das Problem ist. Da an meinem Auto vor nicht all zu langer Zeit etwas am Motor repariert worden ist, sieht es so aus, als hätte die extreme Belastung durch das Gewicht der Ladung in Kombination mit dieser schwierigen Kante, diesen "Ring" zum Platzen gebracht und kleine Metallteilchen sind in Motor geraten. Es steht also sehr schlecht um den Motor und er muss höchstwahrscheinlich gewechselt werden

. 

We left my car on the side of the road and I got a ride to the village in Ryan's truck and stayed there over night . The next day a colleague of mine came out with his truck to check what the problem was. Since something on the engine got fixed not too long ago, it looks as if trying to get over this difficult edge with the heavy load has bursted that "ring" (that got fixed) and small metal particles got into the engine. So the engine is not doing anything anymore and I will most likely need to replace it.

Da man am Straßenrand nicht viel machen kann, hat mich Cameron dann mit seinem Toyota die 3h zurück in die Stadt abgeschleppt. Was eine sehr Interessante Erfahrung war. Es ist nämlich ein komisches Gefühl, das man nicht wirklich die Kontrolle hat, wenn man hinter dem Steuer sitzt. Dazu kommt, das man die Straße nicht sehen kann. Und es war, wie gesagt, die schlechte Straße. Ich musste mich die ganze Zeit darauf konzentrieren, das das Seil so gut wie möglich gespannt bleibt. Vor allem wenn er abgebremst hat, musst ich auch mit der Handbremse verlangsamen. Das Seil ist und unterwegs 2 mal gerissen und wurde mit jedem mal kürzer (im Foto ist es noch lang ;) ). 

Since there is not much you can do on the side of the road, Cameron towed me back into town with his Toyota, three hours drive away.It was a very interesting experience. Because it's a strange feeling that you don't really have control when you're behind the wheel. In addition, you cannot see the street. And, as I said, it was the bad road. I had to concentrate on keeping the rope pulled tight as possible. Especially when he had to braked, I also had to slow down, mainly with the emergency break. The rope broke twice and got shorter each time (in the photo it is still long;)).

So sahen unter der Brücke aus ;) Während wir auf Cameron gewartet haben, hatten wir ein bisschen Zeit uns umzusehen...

Dieses Foto ist am Abend im Dorf. Da es keinen Strom gibt, ist es überall Stockdunkel. Hier hat jemand einen Generator laufen und viele Leute aus dem Dorf kommen um Fernsehn zu schauen ;) 

I took this picture in the evening in the village. Since there is no electricity, it is pitch dark everywhere. But someone has had a generator running and many people from the village came to watch TV;)

Mit der Arbeit an den Häusern ging es nur minimal voran, da wir einige Probleme mit der Arbeitern hatten. Gerne dürft ihr da mit dafür beten, dass Gott uns Weisheit im Umgang mit den Leuten gibt. Es ist oft Schwierig zu wissen was die beste Lösung ist und wir möchten ein gutes Zeugnis sein. 

Just a minimal amount of work got done on the houses because we had some problems with the workers. You are welcome to pray that God gives us wisdom in dealing with the people. It is often difficult to know what the best solution is and we want to be a good testimony.

Als ich dann Sonntag Abend zuhause angekommen war musste ich an das Lied im Lego film denken und ihm zustimmen: "Hier ist gar nichts super!".... aber Gott ist es. Und das ist genug.

So as I got back Sunday night from that trip, I could't more agree with the Lego movie song: "Everything's not awesome!" ... but God is. And thats enough.
